Jeremy Smith
The US-based Engineering for Change is compiling a set of regional reports on education for what they term "Engineering for Global Development", effectively what we'd call Humanitarian Engineering in Australia. An Australian report was completed in 2019, with a report for Latin America released in 2020 and attached here. Interesting to see a wide range of terms and approaches used, as well as a significant local and rural focus as well as engagement with North American organisations. Sergio Guillen Grillo
This is a great resource. I was in a panel just this week at the World Engineering Education Forum/Global Engineering Deans Council with one of the authors, Grace Burleson. It is interesting the momentum that is being gained by the broadened focus of engineering practice that includes literacy of social justice, equitable development and sustainability issues. In my home country of Costa Rica, while some impressive gains have been achieved in peacebuilding form an engineering approach to project development, there is still a long way to go until academic curricula make this shift to substantially address the broader cultural, social and political context of development.
